« BackSenators Crafting New Climate Change Legislation
Tuesday, March 09, 2010
Senators John Kerry (D-MA), Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) resumed negotiations on a new variation of a comprehensive climate bill. Rather than an economy-wide cap and trade program, the Senators may propose sector-by-sector standards to regulate emissions and energy consumption. This includes a separate section specifically on manufacturing.
A Senator close to the negotiations has asked One Voice to help craft provisions in the bill that may help lessen the damage on small manufacturers who will likely see increased energy costs. One Voice is seeking input from NTMA and PMA members on whether tax credits, rebates, grants or some other format would help alleviate increased production costs.
While health care and tax extenders remain the Senate’s top priorities, Sens. Kerry, Lieberman and Graham hope to have their compromise climate change bill prepared by early April.
